Why do Christians think Thomas Jefferson was a Christian?

To Christians, its like a war to try to get as much brilliant minds as possible. Some even say that Einstein was one. The guys who openly admit to being atheist but are evil (Hitler) aren't REAL christians. Its so that they can say "look this guy believes in a god!...what do you say to that!?!"
