What monologue should a beginner start with?

I would suggest using a comedic monologue to start with. If you want to have another one for auditioning(which you should) then I would try a melodramatic or a motivational one. Shakespearean monologues should only really be used to audition for a Shakespearean play. But don't use a Romeo and Juliet monologue to audition for Romeo and Juliet. There are lots of web site that will give you free monologues to download or to print. Don't try to write your own though, it will probably stink. I know there are a lot of different types of comedic monologues ie: dark humor, making fun of people, cheesey jokes, its funny cuz its true. Good luck, hope this helped!
